During my time abroad, I had the incredible opportunity to see historical sites and artifacts that enriched my understanding of history beyond the classroom. As a history major, witnessing centuries-old landmarks in person was an awe-inspiring experience. Studying American politics from an international perspective provided valuable insight into how the U.S. is viewed globally, broadening my analytical lens. Additionally, while abroad I took a Shakespeare class which definitely encouraged me to diversify what I read and explore new genres. This experience deepened my appreciation for different cultures and their historical contexts—traveling extensively was certainly a highlight, fueling my passion for new experiences and expanding my worldview.

Because I went to London, I also got to experience how the UK is perceived outside of itself. I hadn’t anticipated encountering such diverse and sometimes critical perspectives on British traditions and societal issues. This exposure challenged my preconceived notions and provided me with a more nuanced understanding of international viewpoints. I was also pleasantly surprised by the deep connections between British history and other countries, which I hadn’t fully appreciated before. This interconnectivity enriched my studies and deepened my appreciation for global history.
