Religion department and Honors program professor Gareth Fisher recently participated in an episode of the podcast series “Figuring out Fanfiction” led by Honors alumna Lianza Reyes (’20). Prof. Fisher drew on his experience teaching the popular Honors seminar “Fantasy and Social Values” to discuss how fan fiction has been part of human literary expression since ancient times, why creators of modern science-fiction and fantasy franchises sometimes encourage fan fiction based on their own creations, and how fan fiction is preparing the next generation of writers to craft their own original work.
