Two students from the Renée Crown University Honors Program, Mallory Brown ’27 and Khuong Pham ’27, have been named 2026 Goldwater Scholars—one of the most prestigious undergraduate awards in science, engineering, and mathematics.

Mallory Brown, a neuroscience and statistics major, has built a research path grounded in both quantitative analysis and biological inquiry. Her work spans multiple labs, including research on intrinsically disordered proteins and their behavior under stress conditions. She has also applied statistical methods to child development studies, identifying patterns in behavioral assessments that had not previously been documented. Her ability to move between disciplines reflects a strong foundation in data-driven research and a clear interest in uncovering complex biological and developmental processes.

Khuong Pham, a bioengineering major, conducts research at the intersection of chemistry, biology, and engineering. His work focuses on designing antimicrobial peptoids—synthetic molecules that mimic natural infection-fighting proteins—to create “self-defensive” surfaces for medical implants. Alongside experimental work, he has developed advanced computational skills in molecular simulation and high-performance computing, applying them across multiple research environments, including international research experience in Germany.

Both students exemplify the depth of inquiry, technical skill, and intellectual curiosity that define Goldwater Scholars. Their work not only contributes to advancing research in their respective fields but also reflects the strong culture of undergraduate research within the Honors community.

Congratulations to Mallory and Khuong on this outstanding achievement!
