The experience that I got with my Honors grant was the ability to fully engage in an internship for a property tech firm in London. I was situated in western London, at a company of around 50 people. My role was to develop AI tools to help streamline workflows for the company. The two things I enjoyed most about my experience were the ability to apply my interests in person and interact with my local British coworkers. I enjoyed developing a relationship with my employees and fellow interns most about my experience.

Something that surprised me about my experience was how different the work culture is in the UK. At my company, there are less frequent meetings that I expected, which gave more time for independent work and progress. While this internship did not produce any physical publication, my work is being used by the company to further develop their systems. On the personal side, I am planning to integrate my thinking from this internship into my economics distinction project, which I am planning to focus on the economics of AI regulation.

Receiving an award from Honors greatly supported me in this experience because I was able to budget for going to lunches or networking activities with the team during and after work. As a result of this, I could focus on building my network and developing more intricate relationships with the team without having to worry about finances. I am grateful to the Honors Program for that opportunity. This experience contributed greatly to my overall professional goals. In this experience, I obtained skills and knowledge that I intend to apply in my future work in AI law. Understanding the gap between creation and implementation, and the human aspect of AI were crucial to me as I progress in my career. This experience also helped me to develop communication skills that extend beyond the material of the work I engaged with.

I would like to thank the Syracuse London Program in helping me with my placement. I specifically want to thank Charlie Loynes, the internship program director, for finding me this opportunity and helping me get my foot in the door.
