Hendrick’s Chapel’s “Music and Message” series is featuring four world premiere performances this spring semester. Among the premieres, on Thursday, March 10th there will be a performance of “Mass of Reconciliation” for choir and jazz/funk band. This piece was composed by Honors core faculty José “Peppie” Calvar, associate professor of applied music and performance and assistant director of choral activities in the Setnor School.

The series is designed to grant the opportunity for Setnor School faculty and student to present new music to the campus and local community. Other composers include by Clarice Assad, João Luiz, Ian Shaw and Ivan Božičević. Assad and Luiz are both multi-Grammy Award nominees, and Assad’s current release has been nominated for four Grammy Awards. Music and Message programs take place at the chapel on Sundays at 4 p.m., unless otherwise noted, beginning Feb. 13 through May 8. For more information and for a complete schedule, visit the Music and Message website. Read more about Prof. Calvar here.
