Honors Students Visit National Baseball Hall of Fame

In October, students from Professor Rick Burton’s HNR 340, Baseball and American Culture course visited the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Hall of Fame archivist Cassidy Lent gave students a behind-the-scenes look at the museum’s Giamatti Research Center where they viewed historic reference materials, including the scorecard from Bobby Thompson’s “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” in 1951, the official statistics log from Jackie Robinson’s first season in 1947, and the original promissory note from Babe Ruth’s sale from the Red Sox to Yankees. Students in Baseball and American Culture complete a baseball-related research project as part of their class assignments and they used their time in the Hall of Fame’s archives to discuss their research topics and plans before touring the museum.
