In Professor Rick Burton’s fall Honors’ Baseball in American Culture course, students conduct a semester-long research project on a topic of their choice. Students then have the option of submitting their work to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, for presentation at the Hall’s annual Cooperstown Symposium. Papers by Professor Burton and students Benjamin Houle (Supply Chain Management) and Peyton Smith (Broadcast and Digital Journalism) were accepted for presentation in May. Their papers are titled: “Mark Twain: Baseball’s First Celebrity Endorser” by Professor Burton, “Industrial League Baseball: The Ultimate American Underdog Story” by Benjamin Houle, and “Broadcasting America’s Pastime: Challenges and Opportunities” by Peyton Smith.
