Although the use of film is promoted in the New York State Next Generation ELA standards, none of the standards offer a teaching method on how to effectively instruct with animated documentary film. This paper seeks to bridge the gap between the study of animated documentaries and ELA pedagogy by explaining the pedagogic value of integrating animated documentary film into the ELA classroom and offering three lesson plans that allow high school ELA teachers to do so.
