Frances Brown
I studied abroad in London, Spring 2025 through the Whitman Core program. Study abroad opened my eyes to the rest of the world. Whether it was academically learning about global cultures, or exploring the city and neighboring countries I embarked on a journey. This was a journey in every aspect possible, personal, academically, career wise and more. My experiences abroad shaped me into the better version myself I am today. I enjoyed most learning more about the world and myself in the beautiful city of London.
Something that surprised me about this experience, is what it truly felt like to be in the “real world”. Prior to abroad, I felt like I was always in a calm bubble. Being in a city, completely new to you, pushed me out of my comfort zone. And honestly pushed me to be better, more confident, and individual. I truly felt like I was adulting, the sense of freedom I felt was exhilarating. And as cliche as it may seem the world was truly my oyster in those precious four months.
Studying abroad in London, made me realize how much more I want to travel and possibly live abroad post grad. Studying abroad, especially taking classes at Faraday house reignited my academic curiosity. There is so much more in the world I don’t know, and rejuvenated through this experience I want to continue learning and absorbing information all the time. Currently, I am looking at how I can find job opportunities to live back at the city that stole my heart.
As a global ambassador, I hope to continue to encouraging and supporting students in abroad experiences. Post studying abroad, I now to get to be a mentor to students embarking on their study abroad journey, which is incredibly rewarding. I hope to continue writing about my experiences through blog posts, journaling, and other content creating.
Through the academic grant I was able to afford these experiences that significantly made my life better. I was able to afford flight tickets to travel the world. I am forever grateful for the support SU Honors has given me. BIG thank you to Honors for contributing to such an important moment in my life.
