Heidi Simental

I had an amazing time in Washington D.C. as a part of the Newhouse immersion program. From the courses I took, I was able to learn more about the journalism industry, particularly the changes over time in political reporting. Through the practicum course, I was able to gain hands-on experience as a social media intern. We also toured the headquarters of several leaders in communications, including NBC News, Facebook (Meta), and Edelman PR. This was a valuable experience for both gaining more knowledge of the industry and networking with others. I was shocked to learn that D.C. has an amazing public transit system! Prior to this semester, I wasn’t very familiar with this but it’s very easy to navigate and super convenient for exploring the city. After spending just one semester in D.C. I hope to return post-grad because I enjoyed myself there so much.
