From Generation to Generation

The day Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) began, CNN published an excerpt from Emily Steinberger’s Honors thesis, L’dor V’dor: From Generation to Generation — an exploration of her family’s escape from persecution during the Holocaust. Both sides of Emily’s family fled from Eastern Europe, bringing with them photographs, documents and memories that they preserved in order to keep their history alive. By sifting through archives and creating this book, she helped rekindle this story, and then CNN helped her share it with the world.

Emily says that although this chapter of the project is coming to an end, the project is far from complete. Already recognized by the World Photography Organisation when they selected it for the shortlist in their professional creative category, Emily is eager to start the journey of looking for a publisher for her work, and is hoping to travel back to the places her family came from in order to continue exploring the impacts of the Holocaust.
