The Honors Program, Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics and the Center for European Studies hosted author and Vice-Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv, Ukraine and GULAG survivor, Dr. Myron Marynovych for a lecture in September. He shared his story of life in the Gulag in Ukraine in the 20th century.  Marynovych, a Ukrainian dissident, was jailed from 1977-1987 under the worst conditions imaginable to people in the free world.  Dr. Marynovych is a human rights activist, journalist, religious scholar, member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, and organizer of the amnesty movement in Ukraine. His new book is The Universe Behind Barbed Wire.  This fall, students in the honors course, The Power of Evil in Post-Revolutionary Russian Literature, are reading selections from the book.
