Hello Honors Students, Karen, your civic engagement guru here
We received information about a great volunteer opportunity that would add to your civic engagement hours. The Q Center in Syracuse is looking for a programming intern–all the necessary information and forms are available here.
The Q Center is a safe place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth and their allies to gather, share, hang out, have fun, and build healthy relationships with supportive adults and peers. It is a great place to make new friends.
You would be working with Tyler Sliker, a host of very active volunteers, and a center full of cool kids. I have volunteered with the Q Center on a number of occasions and really enjoyed it. I met Tyler when I was the program coordinator for SAGE Upstate (an LGBT organization serving folks at the opposite end of the life cycle) and he is enjoyable to work with.
If you can’t make the kind of commitment this internship might require, consider volunteering at the Q Center in a way that fits your schedule and interests. The center is on a bus line, so transportation is doable as well.
