Curious about how to get involved in research as a Maxwell Honors student but not sure where to start? Dessert & Discovery offers students a welcoming space to ask questions, connect with faculty, and learn how research can become a meaningful part of their academic journey (with dessert included).

Hosted by the Renée Crown University Honors Program, the event brings together Honors Core Faculty Member Professor Tessa Murphy and Department of Economics Professor Kristy Buzard for an open conversation about pathways into research. You will have the opportunity to hear directly from faculty about how research begins, how to find a mentor, and how to turn classroom curiosity into real-world inquiry.

Professor Buzard will introduce the RAISE (Research Advancement & Impact in Syracuse Economics) initiative, which supports student engagement in research and provides structured opportunities to collaborate on impactful projects. Representatives from SOURCE (Syracuse Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Engagement) will also be present to share additional resources, funding options, and guidance for students interested in pursuing independent or faculty-led research.

Please register in advance using this link.

This can be your first step toward shaping your academic and professional paths, because sometimes, the best discoveries really do start over dessert.
