Stitching Our Stories: Threads of Self, Community, and Future
We invite all Honors students to participate in “Stitching Our Stories: Threads of Self, Community, and Future,” a vibrant new series of community sew-ins held throughout the 2025–2026 academic year.
This project is more than quilting, it’s a space for expression, storytelling, and connection. Through hands-on workshops, participants will explore themes of identity, belonging, justice, and imagination. Whether you’re new to sewing or a seasoned quilter, you’ll find a welcoming and creative environment. No prior experience is needed, and all materials will be provided – including fabric, thread, tools, and sewing machines.
Each sew-in begins with a guided group reflection, exploring questions and themes that inspire each session’s quilt block. By the end of each event, you’ll have created a unique quilt block in collaboration with fellow community members. If you attend all four events, you’ll have the opportunity to assemble your blocks into a complete quilt.
Event Details:
- Dates: Four sew-in workshops throughout the 2025–2026 academic year
- First Event: Saturday, October 4, 2025 | 10 AM – 2 PM
- Location: Onondaga County Central Library Makerspace, 447 S Salina Street, Syracuse, NY
- Light snacks are provided
- All supplies included
- Open to the public – bring a friend!
The program will culminate in March 2026 with a public panel discussion and celebration, featuring nationally known quilters and textile artists, whose work bridges art, activism, and community practice.
