South Campus Food Pantry Volunteer Opportunity
The South Campus Food Pantry has a volunteer position open for the fall semester! They are looking for a student who is passionate about supporting their peers and helping fight food insecurity here on campus. The student will come in on Wednesdays from 12:30 pm to 3:15 pm and cover the following responsibilities:
- Open/Close
- Open the pantry facility at 1pm or close at 3pm
- Display the “OPEN” sign outside the building, or “CLOSED”
- Inventory Management:
- Stock the food pantry shelves with fresh produce and pantry staples between 12:30pm and 1pm
- Ensure an adequate supply of items at all times
- Customer Interaction:
- Greet pantry customers with a friendly and helpful demeanor
- Welcome new customers, provide an orientation to the pantry, and explain guidelines and rules
- Documentation:
- Students need to show the pantry volunteer a valid SU ID to receive their groceries
- On a sheet of paper, the volunteer will mark each pantry user
- Organization:
- Maintain a clean and neat pantry environment throughout operational hours
- Restocking:
- Restock pantry items as needed to ensure availability for customers
- Customer Assistance:
- Offer assistance to customers and address any questions or concerns they may have
- Inquire if customers require anything else to fulfill their needs
- Closing
- Organize and store all produce in designated storage areas, ensuring proper rotation
- Discard any items that do not meet quality standards
- Wash any dishes, utensils or equipment that were used
- Clean pantry counters
