I was very fortunate to be selected for a summer internship at the Newhouse School beginning the process of creating the school’s next big journalism project. This journalism project is about the Erie Canal, which was boring at first, but the more I read, the more I understood the vitality the canal brought to America. I pitched and wrote several articles centered around the data of the early canal, and researched several interesting trends and stories connected to the early days of the canal.

Professor Glass of the Newhouse school was integral in telling me about the opportunity and ultimately helping me while I was working on the project. Another key figure was Professor Munno, who was my advisor on the project, and he took my journalistic writing to another level through his guidance and editing. As of right now, I am still working on the project as their lead content producer. I am helping other students report and write stories about the Erie Canal to have this project be fuller. This process will likely take until the end of the semester, with publication of the project being in the early spring.
