I had a professional development experience interning at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C., where I was the intern for the Europe Department, which handles U.S./Europe relations for businesses. The organization is a behemoth in D.C. activities, so I got to experience many significant events and networking opportunities. During my time there, I got to go to staff events with Ambassadors, foreign diplomats, U.S. Cabinet Secretaries, and the NATO Sec. General.

I did not expect to be able to network with professionals from across fields and organizations across D.C. with this internship. I was extremely to have a supportive team that exposed me to people from all sorts of places. Not only did these experiences enhance my professional network, but they introduced me to new ideas, perspectives, and identities. The highlight of my summer’s professional experience was learning from the incredibly accomplished people I was surrounded by.

As part of my internship, I got to work with the U.S./UK Business Council, which fosters strong transatlantic business and government relations. This work was especially interesting to me. I want to study in the UK in the future, researching the UK’s tax structures and welfare system. My time there has also inspired further reading on UK politics and history. I look forward to spending time in the UK and pursuing higher education and/or professional work.
