For my honors thesis, I will be constructing a cabaret dedicated to exploring the many ways in which women exist in professional spaces. As both a musical theatre major and a competitive powerlifter, I find myself in two drastically different spaces, yet I am treated quite similarly. By researching both female athletes and artists, I seek to lead my audience to question this boundary that has been surrounding women for generations within society, as well as learn more about the accomplishments of women in these professional spaces.

My advisor encouraged me to look into female composers for my research, and until now I hadn’t realized how underrepresented they are in the world of musical theatre. Additionally, I’ve found that women have been a part of many major compositions, yet have been left off the credits as to not take away from the reputation of the man credited with the work. As of right now, I intend to perform this cabaret for a live audience in December, as well as film it.
