On December 9, 2022, the Black Honors Society and the National Society of Black Engineers hosted their first annual Black Excellence Gala with the support from several offices and individuals; the Renee Crown University Honors Program, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Hendricks Chapel, the Event and Technical Services staff, Office of Student Activities, Ms. Tamara Hamilton from NSBE, Ms. Danielle Smith from Honors, and our performers. (Kalabash Dance Troupe, BRI, and ‘A Piece of Culture’). Our keynote speakers Kevin Richardson and Gezzar Ortega inspired our student body to continue to make positive change in society and strive for excellence in everything that we do.

Awardees: Entrepreneurship Award (MadebyAdore), Greek Excellence Award (Phi Beta Sigma), Student Organization of Year (African Student Union), Leadership Award (Britnee Jean, Donyell Logan, Jordan Pierre), Special Scholarship Award (Samantha Bastien, Juanitta Bekoe, Elizabeth Fatade), Community Service Award (Sonia Issa, Ashley Issak, Felix Mejia), NSBE IStudy Award (Hennecys Perez Castro, Haben Legesse) and General Academic Excellence (21 recipients)

We look forward to bringing back this important event to our community to allow black excellence to be properly recognized and uplift the SU minority population.
