Professor Patricia Burak, Honors faculty and faculty advisor for the university’s Ukrainian student organization, presented aspects of Ukrainian culture with students at the annual “Cultures on the Quad” event hosted by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics. The students presented the art of decorating Ukrainian Easter eggs (“pysanky”) and facilitated questions about the history, geography and culture of Ukraine. Burak also marched with Ukrainian students in yellow and blue solidarity at a local celebration. The city of Syracuse appointed the student association to lead this year’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. Burak presents a voice of advocacy for students who are navigating “daily routine” while living excruciatingly far from family and friends impacted by war.
