I attended the 2025 Asian American Journalists Association’s National Convention in Seattle in July, where I was able to represent Syracuse University and our AAJA chapter. At the convention, the AAJA-SU chapter and I had the opportunity to attend panels and hear from seasoned professionals within the journalism industry, spanning across different generations and disciplines. We were given exclusive networking opportunities with other universities and alumni, and were able to learn more about future internship and professional development opportunities. It is always a pleasure to attend the annual convention to meet likeminded journalists who are able to share experiences as people of color within a predominately white industry.

I always appreciate the kindness and willingness of seasoned professionals to help and support upcoming student journalists. Beyond our SU alumni, early-career recruiters from national companies and fellow journalists graciously offer empathy and advice to students who are uncertain about their future or have pressing questions.

With every AAJA convention I attend, I leave with newfound interests and a renewed passion for an industry that can often feel overwhelming. Seeing successful individuals firsthand in the field I hope to make an impact in motivates me to keep going and aim higher. In the future, I hope to pursue opportunities that align with my interests in arts and culture, and entertainment journalism.

Having the support from Honors allowed me to travel across the country to a city I would have never thought to visit. This opportunity allowed me to fully explore the city and to learn more about its rich history and culture, providing me with a new sense on the west coast.
