My time abroad was truly incredible. I met amazing people and had so many opportunities to not only learn about the countries I visited but to experience the cultures as well. It was easily one of the best things I’ve ever done, and it truly made my time at Syracuse University unforgettable! My professor, Dr. Golden, was an incredible teacher; not only did she push us to learn as much as we could and to take advantage of all the opportunities we could, but she also cared deeply about our successes. She is one of the many reasons why this abroad semester was so amazing.

Being immersed in different countries is sometimes difficult, with not being fluent in the language and being far away from home. However, when you spend 3–4 months abroad, you pick up the language and take some of the culture home with you. I wasn’t expecting the sheer multitude of information that I would have to retain and the fact that I was capable of retaining it. As an International Relations major, I would love to have a career where I could help people on an international scale. I will be in Washington, DC, in the spring through the Maxwell in DC program, and now that I’ve done some traveling, I hope I will be able to learn more about policies and how to communicate better with all kinds of people. Hopefully, with these two experiences, I will be able to achieve my career goals.
