On Tuesday, November 13th, Rodney D. Sieh, Liberian investigative journalist, spoke with students in the Honors course – Conceptualizing Human Rights. Mr. Sieh is founder and editor of FrontPage Africa, Liberia’s largest independent daily print and online newspaper. Mr. Sieh spoke about his work which exposed poor governance, limited accountability, and lack of transparency within Liberia, which reflected the deep-seated corruption at all levels of the Liberian administration. Mr. Sieh was sued by a former Liberian government minister after publication of a government audit. FrontPage Africa was shut down by the government and Mr. Sieh was sentenced to 5,000 years for failure to pay the $1.5 million libel awarded to the minister.
