Why Join Honors?
The Honors Program provides a space for students who want to get the most out of their education; who want to challenge themselves; who have diverse interests and wide-ranging curiosity; and who are willing to work hard because they enjoy seeing the benefits of that work—to themselves and their communities.
Honors classes are led as small seminars. Faculty teach innovative and often interdisciplinary topics, and students engage in lively discussion with fellow students. Hands-on learning, field trips, and other enrichment activities are hallmarks of Honors courses.
A hallmark of the Honors Program is the completion of a thesis project. This project is the culmination of the student's academic or creative interests, and often lays the groundwork for their professional or educational path after Syracuse University. Honors also offers Academic Enhancement Awards that students can use for attending conferences and workshops, or other career development opportunities.
Honors advisors are familiar with the challenges and opportunities that students face, and provide superb support through advising and personal attention. This includes advising on Honors requirements, career interests, graduate and professional schools, and preparation for prestigious graduate fellowships and scholarships.
The Honors Suite in Bowne Hall has seminar classrooms, advising staff offices, a student lounge, and a computer lab. The lounge and lab are available to Honors students 24 hours a day. Honors first year students can live together in Sadler Hall through their sophomore year if they choose. Honors also offers many community building and orientation programs for Honors students, such as retreats, workshops, and trips to local events and attractions.
