Eligibility

To qualify for election, you must fulfill the following requirements:

You must:

  • have a major in the College of Arts and Sciences, though you may have majors in non-A&S fields as well.
  • have earned a total of at least 90 Arts & Sciences credits (except transfer students, see below);
  • If you have between 90 - 104 credits, you must have a minimum 3.8 cumulative GPA at Syracuse University
  • If you have 105 credits or more, you may have a minimum 3.7 cumulative GPA at Syracuse University.
  • have studied a foreign language (ancient or modern) through the intermediate level.  At Syracuse University, this means satisfying the Liberal Arts Core “Language Skills” Requirement by completing a 4-credit language course numbered 201, or by satisfying one of the “exemptions and alternatives” listed in the College of Arts and Sciences Liberal Arts Core Guidebook.  (Under Liberal Skills Requirement, see “Language Skills”). Transfer or AP credits can fulfill this requirement.  We consider bilingual students to have met the language requirement.
  • Demonstrate basic competence in mathematics. At Syracuse University, this means completing the “Quantitative Skills” requirement of the College of Arts and Sciences Liberal Arts Core.  (Under Liberal Skills Requirement, see “Quantitative Skills”). Transfer or AP credit can fulfill this requirement.  (Education majors:  We will also accept Mat 117 and 118).
  • Transfer students may qualify, if they meet the GPA, math and language criteria, and have earned at least 60 credits at SU over at least 4 full-time semesters, and 75% of those credits are in The College of Arts and Sciences.
  • Demonstrate good character.
