South Africa: Implementing and Evaluating
Health Education Programs
May 22-June 13, 2015
(Online Portion May 11-May 21)

SU Abroad is holding an information session about their program Wednesday, November 12 at 5pm, in the Hall of Languages room 205.

Students will complete an online-supported module prior to traveling to South Africa. During the online module, students will explore techniques and methods for working collaboratively with communities and focus on topics such as participatory planning models, cultural competency, and empowerment. During part two, students will travel to Grahamstown, South Africa where they will participate with community partners to implement and evaluate a mutually-designed program. Students will also have the opportunity to visit local NGOs, community clinics, attend lectures by SU and Rhodes University faculty and community experts, and immerse themselves in the history, education, health, and culture of South Africa. Need based grants available for those who qualify. 3 credits, undergraduate or graduate, HTW/NSD 400/600 (Public Health and Nutrition students may substitute this course for HTW 402 or NSD 511)
