The Syracuse Northeast Community Center (SNCC) is located next to Dr. Weeks Elementary School where it addresses issues of poverty, crime, poor housing, drug and alcohol abuse, unemployment, domestic violence, teenage pregnancy and other social and economic difficulties. Amongst its numerous support services—an emergency food pantry, social work team, senior center—the SNCC focuses on youth development and enriching, after-school activities.

Volunteering at the Northeast Community Center is an eye-opening and heart-warming experience that offers SU students the opportunity to step away from campus and directly serve the needs of the surrounding community. As you develop one-on-one relationships with the students at SNCC, staff, and other tutors, you gain skills in interpersonal communication, tutoring, and experience with working with children. Plus, you earn civic engagement hours!kids-at-the-tutoring-center
