Become a Tutor for Deaf New Americans Advocacy Inc.
Deaf New Americans Advocacy Inc. is working with SU’s Engaged Humanities Network to connect Children of Deaf Adults (CODAs) with after-school educational support for all subjects. CODAs often experience delays and gaps in their learning because of language barriers between homes, communities, and schools. This program provides educational and language and literacy support through 1-1 and small group tutoring, conversation, and relationship building. Youth participants are hearing, so knowledge of ASL is not necessary.
Tutoring will take place in person at DNA offices (907 Butternut St.) from 6-8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting January 23nd and continuing through the spring semester. Volunteers can sign up to connect weekly during one or both nights. Food and transportation provided. Please submit an interest form via the QR code in the flyer, or contact Prof. Brice Nordquist (banordqu@syr.edu) if you’d like to
