Service on the Slopes

Julia Cleo Fisher ’21 spends much of her time as an Alpine National Ski Patroller at Toggenburg, where she performs a variety of duties, including:

– toboggan driving/tail roping of patient
– physical and mental assessments of injured patients
– Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) as an OEC Technician – EMR equivalent
– checking and ensuring medical equipment
– overseeing local and national ski races
– fill out patient reports and contact appropriate EMS
– other medical duties

“This is the most impactful volunteer experience I have ever had the honor of participating in,” said Julia. “Ski patrol has renewed my want to become a healthcare provider. I learn intrinsic things from my colleagues and my patients that I wouldn’t learn from anywhere else.”
