Interns Needed for Community Research

Undergraduate students work on project requests that are submitted to Syracuse Community Geography by community-based organizations in the Greater Syracuse area. Explore examples of projects former interns have helped create here. This year, we will be working on projects related to public and affordable housing, economic development, urban trails and more. We will also work closely with the City of Syracuse’s Office of Innovation.

Internships are competitive. Student interns receive course credit (GEO 489) and typically intern approximately 12 hours weekly. Positions are paid. This is an excellent opportunity to put your undergraduate training into practice, build your resume and gain valuable skills for future employment and graduate studies!

While students with GIS experience are needed, GIS is not a required skill. Students who have taken GEO 383 (Intro to GIS) will build on the skills learned in class while working on real-world GIS projects. Students without GIS skills will contribute to projects in other ways – literature reviews, building datasets, conducting interviews, hosting events, managing the SCG website and social media, assisting Syracuse Grows, a community gardening organization supported by SCG and more!

To apply, send a brief cover letter, resume, application (download below), and 1 faculty/work supervisor reference form (download below) by August 29. Positions are limited so apply soon. If you have questions, please email Jonnell Robinson.
