Nourish International at Syracuse University and Beyond

Nourish International participants and local villagersThree Honors students traveled to the rural district of Oyam in northern Uganda this summer as interns with Nourish International.

Kelsey Modica (AS ’15), Makayla Dearborn (AS  ’17), and Lynsey Cooper (AS ’17) and the other NI group members researched the needs of the community before leaving for Uganda. The students then planned for three projects—construction of three piggeries, distribution of health education materials, and establishing a sewing project to help the women create reusable cloth sanitary pads.

Modica, who graduated with degrees in French and international relations, plans to take what she’s learned from the experience and pursue a career working for the government, the United Nations or a nonprofit organization.

Honors student Ellen Moore (AS ’14) founded the  Nourish International at Syracuse University chapter two years ago. Nourish International engages students and empowers communities to make a lasting impact on extreme poverty.
