{"id":7639,"date":"2014-07-22T13:07:02","date_gmt":"2014-07-22T13:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/honors.syr.edu\/capstone\/?p=7303"},"modified":"2014-07-22T13:07:02","modified_gmt":"2014-07-22T13:07:02","slug":"points-to-ponder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/honors.syr.edu\/thesis\/2014\/07\/22\/points-to-ponder\/","title":{"rendered":"Points to Ponder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\">Maisha Fabliha Shahid (AS, &#8217;14) has a short list of tips which she hopes will save you time and strife:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/honors.syr.edu\/capstone\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/07\/chile-education-protest.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-8075\" src=\"https:\/\/honors.syr.edu\/capstone\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/07\/chile-education-protest-300x190.jpg\" alt=\"chile education protest\" width=\"300\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">To any future Honors students planning to complete a Capstone, I give the following advice, which I have arrived at after much trial and error:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Spend your time really thinking about the things you are interested in and passionate about, and choose a topic that will intrigue you even (and especially) after a year of studying it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It can help to approach the project as several small studies or questions that need to be answered rather than getting overwhelmed by the scope of the entire thing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Start early and make the process gradual, even if you get just a little bit done per week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Your advisor will be an invaluable resource you should take advantage of even if \u2013 and especially when \u2013 you feel stuck, frustrated, and stressed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The process will be difficult, but the sense of accomplishment after it all is wonderful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"center\">Maisha&#8217;s Capstone, \u201c&#8217;Adelante, con todas las Fuerzas\u00a0de la Historia&#8217;:\u00a0An\u00a0Exploration of the\u00a0Chilean Student\u00a0Movement\u00a0for\u00a0Education\u00a0Reform&#8221;,\u00a0explores the reasons that the student movement arose in Chile when it did: factors including an uprising in 2006, a recent shift to conservative government, and generational differences that compel these students to mobilize.
