Thesis Title:
Amazon HQO: Greed is Good, Greed is Green
Valuing capital gain above all else, the seemingly sustainable, green, utopia of the corporate campus in fact places the least value on human lives, prioritizing product, intellectual property, and data above the well-being of people. This capstone proposes a new Amazon campus, projected into 2070, which acts as infrastructure protecting New York's 'more valuable' real estate. This apparent public service and 'commitment to sustainability' is built on a company's self-interest and at the expense of a long-standing community.
The campus is a machine for producing and protecting, lessen the damage of storm surge on the new coastline and providing the city with a 'public service' by providing a layer of protection for the remaining real estate and decelerating the loss of usable land. Amazon HQO explores one way in which the global climate crisis will produce benefits for the wealthy, while having the worst impact on poor communities of color.
