Thesis Title:
Implementing CPTED Crime Prevention Design Principles on a Community Project-Based Scale: Syracuse, New York A Process Manual for Identification, Planning, and Implementation
This project synthesizes established Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) theory and qualitative research conducted in the City of Syracuse to present a Process manual which makes these design concepts accessible and feasible for local nonprofit organizations. These design concepts are drawn from empirical evidence which shows a strong connection between physical space and crime tendencies, and offers innovative approaches which optimize residential and commercial areas to discourage crime. This manual condenses these theories into a version more affordable and practical for local organizations, and creates an opportunity for infrastructural transformation in City neighborhoods which have been systematically neglected.
