Shifts are typically Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm, or 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm, but may slightly vary per assignment.

Applications for the Fall 2025 semester close on Friday, July 18th at 4pm. Visit the Upstate website to learn more about the requirements and submit your application, and contact volunteer@upstate.edu or call 315-464-5180 with any questions.

Standardized Patient Application

Standardized Patients (SPs) are individuals trained to portray medical conditions for educational purposes. SPs come from diverse backgrounds and accurately portray patients, including their history, symptoms, and behaviors, in a consistent manner. This role helps medical learners practice patient interactions in a realistic and safe environment. SPs receive specialized training to memorize patient cases and provide valuable feedback to healthcare learners. They work under faculty guidance to support educational sessions and enhance the learning experience for medical and nursing students.

Complete the online application form to be considered for a Standardized Patient role on here. You can also view more information on Standardized Patients on the Upstate Simulation Department website, or by reaching out to the Simulation Department at SIMULATE@upstate.edu.

While working as an SP is a paid position, Honors will accept hours worked towards your civic engagement requirement.
