Volunteer with La Casita
La Casita is a program here at SU that aims to bridge the Hispanic communities of the University and Central New York through research and the arts. They are currently looking for volunteers for their regular programming, which runs on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4 pm – 6 pm. The programs for their Fall schedule include Piano Lessons, Guitar Lessons, Multimedia Storytelling, Open Studio, Arts as Mindfulness for Adults, S.T.E.M., and DANZA. Community Dinner & Dialogue
La Casita is hosting a dinner party and community dialogue in conversation with Melanie Littlejohn, President & CEO of Central New York Community Foundation (CNYCF) to discuss ways to support the Latino community in Syracuse.
Volunteer Tasks: assist with clean-up and set-up for the event. Support technical needs of the event (microphone, sound equipment, lights).
Date & Time: Friday Oct. 18th, 6 pm – 8 pm
Pulso Central Fiesta
Pulso Central Fiesta is the official launch party for Pulso Central, the first Spanish language radio station in the Central NY region, with coffee, tea, desserts, and entertainment from DJ Lorenz.
Volunteer Tasks: assist with clean-up and set-up for the event. Support technical needs of the event (microphone, sound equipment, lights).
Date & Time: Thursday Oct. 24th, 6 pm – 8 pm
Drumming Workshop
This is a weekly drumming workshop led by Puerto Rican musician Made Gomez Matos.
Volunteer Tasks: Assist with program instruction (must complete Risk Management Training and Background Check).
Dates & Time: Saturdays Oct. 26, Nov. 2, Nov. 9, and Nov. 16; 12:30pm – 1:30pm
Moms & Women’s Luncheon
This a monthly luncheon for the women and mothers in the community, they engage in activities and conversations completely in Spanish.
Volunteer Tasks: work with youth who attend the Luncheon with their parents, produce activities and games for youth (must complete Risk Management Training and Background Check).
Date & Time: Saturday Oct. 26th, 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm
