Nutrition Initiative at the Shaw Center

The Nutrition Initiative at the Shaw Center is looking for volunteers for our three programs! We encourage you to participate in one (or more) of the volunteer opportunities detailed below! These programs provide volunteer hours, resume experience, and a chance to practice what you are learning in the classroom. 

Books and Cooks! is a program that works with 5th graders at a local elementary school. Each lesson is centered around a specific country and culture, accompanied by a recipe prepared with the whole group. The program concludes with a final celebration reviewing all nutrition, cooking, and country lessons. The tentative day for this program is Friday afternoons. Transportation is provided. 

Cooking on the Hillside is an after school program that works with high school students to teach basic cooking skills, recipe reading and nutritional concepts each week. This tentative day for this program is Monday or Tuesday afternoons.The program takes place at Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection and transportation is provided. 

Food Busters is a program that works with high school students at Henninger High School to apply nutrition concepts to biomedical lessons. Each lesson will be based around a different nutrition and food science theme. The tentative day for this program is Friday afternoonsand transportation is provided.
