Nutrition Initiative Seeks Volunteers
The Nutrition Initiative at the Shaw Center is looking for volunteers for three unique programs. Students are encouraged to participate in one (or more) of the volunteer opportunities detailed below.
Books and Cooks! is a program that works with 5th graders at a local elementary school. Each lesson is centered around a specific country and culture, accompanied by a recipe prepared with the whole group. The program concludes with a final celebration reviewing all nutrition, cooking, and country lessons. This program will take place on Fridays. Transportation is provided.
Cooking on the Hillside is an after school program that works with high school students to teach basic cooking skills, recipe reading and nutritional concepts each week. This program will take place on Wednesday afternoons. The program takes place at Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection and transportation is provided.
Food Busters is a program that works with high school students at Henninger High school to apply nutrition concepts to biomedical lessons. Each lesson will be based around a different nutrition and food science theme. This will take place on Friday afternoons and transportation is provided.
