The SU Anthropology Department is seeking volunteers to assist with the preparation of activist, artist, and anthropologist Jason de Leon’s “Hostile Terrain” exhibit. This project seeks to raise awareness of migrants who have died crossing the US/Mexico border and the effects of US Border Patrol policy. The installation at SU’s Shaffer Art Gallery will consist of a scale map of Arizona with ~3,200 toe tags affixed to it, representing the locations where the bodies of migrants have been recovered. We need volunteers to fill out approximately 50-100 toe tags with the information provided about each migrant. In addition to receiving service hours, this is an opportunity to reflect on the human effects of US policy and to memorialize those who have died, who may still remain unidentified and unknown.

Please email Kate Bajorek at if you would like more information or to volunteer for this project.
