See Your Shadow on Shadow Day

Seymour Dual Language Academy fifth-grade students visit Manley Field House during 2017’s Shadow Day.
See Your Shadow on Shadow Day

On Thursday, April 23rd, about 100 fifth graders from Seymour Dual Language Academy of the Syracuse City School District.

Current Syracuse University undergraduate students are needed to be volunteers on Shadow Day; students must be available from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on April 23. As part of their duties, students will be paired with fifth grade students to spend the day with. In the morning, the pair will eat breakfast, attend a welcome program and take a group photo. From 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. students take the fifth grade students around campus or to an academic class to show students a piece of their student life, and they will have lunch on campus.

Please note, fifth graders are NOT allowed to go into labs, so if you have lab that morning, you cannot have shadows.

Students interested in volunteering, must fill out the Shadow Day volunteer form by March 27th.  Before Shadow Day, they must attend a training briefing. Date and time of the training are to be determined, but accommodations will be set for those unable to make the first option.

Interested students can contact Emily Winiecki, program coordinator in the Office of Community Engagement, with questions.
