Volunteer during National Residence Hall Month
Volunteer during National Residence Hall Month
Each week of the month has a specific focus: advocacy, leadership, service and recognition.
The advocacy event we are planning is based upon an idea constructed by the University of Florida where students will paint bricks with insults or slurs they have had used against them. These bricks will be put together into a wall which will stand for a few days for students to view. On the day of the event we will all work together to pull the wall down. Prior to the pull-down we will have a Take Back the Night-style share-out opportunity to discuss the impact of hateful language on marginalized students on our campus. This event is based upon the one done by the IRHA at the University of Florida, a video of which can be seen here.
The service event is an RHA hosted Blood Drive in Goldstien Student Center on South Campus. For this blood drive we need people willing to donate blood and also people willing to volunteer to facilitate the day-of event. The link to donate blood is here.
