Sharing the Gift of Education
Sharing the Gift of Education
Kara Foley (AS, ’20) spent last summer volunteering at a school in Santa Maria de Jesus, Guatemala called Jardin de Amor. The school was started by an NGO that opens schools and her placement was arranged through the volunteer organization, Maximo Nivel.
Kara taught the children English with a variety of games, activities, worksheets, and lessons. The experience showed her how valuable the gift of education is. She hopes that by teaching the Guatemalan children English that it will help advance their education and careers and lead them to a better life. It also helped Kara appreciate her opportunities to receive an education and enjoy an overall positive standard of living. This is an experience she definitely would engage in again!
