Kollaboration

Hairol Ma (PC/IS, ’19) has been the social media director at Kollaboration SF, the San Francisco branch of Kollaboration since the fall of 2016. Kollaboration is a national non profit that aims to promote the representation of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in mainstream entertainment media. She managed all social media platforms for their branch and helped sync marketing campaigns.  In 2016 Kollaboration got its own slot at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference.

Interning for a nonprofit was an incredibly eye opening experience for Hairol. The cause hits very close to home for her. She reflects that “I have always been proud of my heritage, but it took being removed from the melting pot of the Bay Area and into Syracuse to see that the rest of America is not as diverse as home.” It has been incredibly rewarding for Hairol to work for an organization pioneering the movement to strive for representation in entertainment. It has shaped her mindset and given her a new lens to critically view media around her—a crucial skill for a Newhouse student!
