YES! (Youth Experiencing Science)

Youth Experiencing Science (YES) is a three day camp for elementary school children to experience science through fun activities, demonstrations and a group project. The camp was led by undergraduates in the MII REU program, including Honors student, Geoffrey Vaartstra (EC ’17) who was part of a group in charge of planning demonstrations, a scavenger hunt and team building activities.
Geoffrey said this about his three days of service: “This experience was my first opportunity to take a leadership role in outreach related to my field of study. It was gratifying to see these kids get excited about science as a result of the efforts of my peers and I to share our knowledge and passion for our careers. I hope to be involved in more civic engagement experiences that highlight science/engineering outreach in order to use my skills and interests in a meaningful way.”students participating in science experiment
