Building a Strong Connection with the Syracuse Community

4 college student and one middle schooler smilingDanielle Bertolini (AS, ’18) volunteered with the student organization MESH: Making Expression and Scholarship Heard in the Spring and Fall of 2015.  Danielle volunteered in Syracuse City School District middle schools to teach students the importance of literacy and encouraging expression through creative writing

Reflecting on her experience, Danielle wrote that “MESH has taught me so much about both the kids I work with and myself. I’ve learned the value of becoming engaged with the world outside of campus; had I not joined this organization, I doubt I would feel such a strong connection with the Syracuse community.” Danielle became increasingly invested in the students as she worked with them over the course of the year and intended to return in future semesters.
