Earning Civic while Abroad

Samantha Gottwalt (VPA, ’17) volunteered at the Florence Half Marathon while she was studying abroad. She connected with this volunteer opportunity through the SU Florence Community Engagement Program.

Samantha distributed medals at the finish line and congratulated runners.  The event gave her a chance to interact with and give back to the community of Florence. She got a chance to practice a little Italian and awarding the finishers with medals at the end was exhilarating: “seeing the joy on the runner’s faces as they finished and the excitement of their accomplishment was extremely rewarding.”
