Working with a Group of People to Create Change
Saniya More (PC, ’19) served as the vice-president of Oxfam SU, Syracuse University’s very own Oxfam chapter in the Spring semester of 2016. It was their first semester as an organization and most of the semester went into looking at Oxfam’s Syria campaign and organizing an event at Funk’n’Waffles to raise money for victims of the crisis.
Looking back, Saniya realizes what an amazing opportunity this was: “I was able to work with a group of people to create change.” Although they didn’t meet their fundraising goals, they were still able to get more than 40 people to attend the event. It was successful and everything ran very smoothly. At the end of her semester, she had her eyes set on organizing a larger scaled event, where more people can be involved.
