Volunteer Opportunities at University United Methodist Church
University United Methodist Church is located at 1085 E Genesee St, less than 1 mile away from campus. Please know that all are welcome at UUMC in whatever way you’d like to participate. Feel free to contact Galyn- UUMC Neighborhood Outreach Coordinator for more information on any of the above or, if you have a large group. email@example.com
Friday Community’s Food Pantry- join us each Friday from 9:30am – 12:30pm as we welcome the community & neighborhood to UUMC to gather food items, clothing, books and participate in a workshop or health clinic. Efforts include unloading a food truck, sorting/staging foods, providing hospitality and assisting our guests.
Tuesday morning Truck deliveries- Many Tuesday mornings The Food Bank of CNY makes its delivery to us. Generally they arrive about 9am. The truck is unloaded of (typically) 2 pallets of food, moved by dolly into our basement pantry where cases are opened and staged.
Sunday Breakfasts– every Sunday at 9am breakfast is served at UUMC. The 1st, 3rd & 5th Sunday brings a bagel & coffee breakfast to our guests. The 2nd & 4th Sunday brings a homemade pancake breakfast to guests. Efforts around food prep., food service, creating a hospitable eating area and clean up are needed. Breakfast concludes by 10:30 each Sunday
*Seasonally, we prepare meals, Thanksgiving bags, and Game days (community is invited to watch SU games on a large screen & a meal is served). Although not a consistent opportunity, these projects are an all hands on deck sort of affair.
*There are also opportunities where a large group could fund raise or campaign for one of our auxiliary programs. One idea; We have a Pet Food Pantry where folk who utilize our Food Pantry can gather Pet Food for their pets. This program exists entirely on donations. A campaign could be created to get Pet Foods into UUMC.
*The Diaper Bank of CNY provides us with thousands of diapers that we distribute to appropriate families who move through our Food pantry. They are very needful, ongoingly of volunteers to wrap diapers, etc. Contact Michela Hugo firstname.lastname@example.org or 315-380-7049
*Eastern Farm Workers is a grass roots organization working to provide basic food, health care, financial resources to its members. EFW are friends with UUMC, we often share food, supplies and space. Ben & Barb are always in need of volunteers to help with a variety of tasks from office work-food prep/food service. Contact- 315-478-1992
