International Women’s Strike
International Women’s Strike
March 8th is International Women’s Day! Currently there is a call for a strike (as well as other actions and events) led by and prioritizing women. We are the Coalition for Justice, an inclusive and intersectional student, faculty, and community member feminist movement at Syracuse University that aims to prioritize marginalized identities and put their interest at the forefront.
We are calling for a rally on the quad (at 3:30pm on 3/8) to stand in solidarity with the women all over the world demonstrating on this day. There is a global feminist movement that we intend to bring to Syracuse. We are connecting International Women’s Day with a local DEMAND for Chancellor Syverud to make Syracuse University a sanctuary campus. We applaud the Chancellor’s creation of a committee to discuss DACA, but we see anything short of full sanctuary status now as insufficient. The sanctuary movement is a growing movement to defend immigrant populations from racist and xenophobic attacks. Syracuse has declared itself a sanctuary city, why hasn’t our university responded in kind? Building this movement will allow for greater levels of resistance to occur at the city, state, and national level.
